Lenovo's Motorola officially unveiled its latest Droids, launching exclusively on Verizon Wireless in the United States, and they're definitely worthy of attention.
The new Moto Z Droid Edition and Moto Z Force Droid Edition are true powerhouses with impressive specs and features all around, wrapped up in sleek designs to make them look and feel premium.
Let's have a closer look at what each of the new Droids has to offer.
Moto Z Force Droid Edition
The rugged Moto Z Force Droid Edition rocks a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, rocking a shatter-proof panel to guarantee the screen doesn't break or crack even if you drop the phone. Powering things up is a Snapdragon 820 processor gunning at 2.2 GHz, Adreno 530 graphics and 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM.
The smartphone further packs 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage space, expandable via microSD up to a whopping 2 TB. Other specs include a front-mounted fingerprint scanner under the screen, a 21-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), phase detection autofocus and an f/1.8 aperture, and a 5-megapixel selfie cam with wide-angle lens and flash.
The Moto Z Force Droid Edition runs on a 3,500 mAh battery that should last up to 40 hours on a single charge, while Rapid Charging delivers up to 15 hours with just a 15-minute charge.
The handset comes in several color options: Fine Gold with White front lens, Black with Rose Gold trim and Black front lens, or Black with Lunar Grey trim and Black front lens.
Moto Z Droid Edition
The Moto Z Droid features a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass protection, not the shatterproof protection of the Force model. In terms of processing power, RAM, storage and microSD, it's identical to the Moto Z Force Droid.
Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, laser autofocus and OIS, a 5-megapixel front shooter with wide-angle lens and flash, and a front-mounted fingerprint scanner located under the display, just like with the Moto Z Force Droid.
In terms of battery life, the Moto Z Droid has a 2,600 mAh unit that should last for up to 30 hours of use, while the Turbo charging mode should deliver up to eight hours of battery life with a 15-minute rapid charge.
Both the Moto Z Droid and the Moto Z Force Droid come with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow preinstalled out of the box, and both support modular accessories called Moto Mods.
The new-generation Droids will hit Verizon Wireless this summer, but the carrier has yet to announce exact launch or pricing details. More information should surface shortly, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
