With a game as expansive and complex as Dark Souls 3, it should be of little surprise that the title needs the occasional patch to fix bugs and implement weapon-balancing in order to improve the gameplay experience for all the members of the DS 3 community.
For the most part, it has. In the past, the game has seen all sorts of fixes and adjustments, such as making Greatswords more powerful, making the requirements to fulfill certain parts of an NPC's questline less restrictive and even fixing a bug where kicks were parryable.
Unfortunately, there was one major caveat in this string of patches: no one knew what many of them would really address ahead of time. Yes, players would get access to the patch notes well ahead of time, but many of the fixes or adjustments were explained poorly. Dark Souls' patch notes are well known for this, and it looks like the most recent one, for app version 1.05 and regulation version 1.08, is no different.
In a Reddit post, Bandai Namco revealed the patch notes set to go live soon. However, just like many of the notes that came before it, it tells us what's coming but doesn't give anything meaningful to go on.
Here are a few examples:
Adjusted the skills of twin blade weapons
Does this mean all twin blade weapons are getting adjusted, or just a few? In a similar vein, what does it mean by skills? This most likely means weapon arts (what else could it mean, really?), but it's still unclear since not all of the twin blade weapons have the same weapon art.
Adjusted the attack collision for the washing pole weapon
Attack collision most likely refers to the weapon's range, right? Some weapons are notable for having a longer range than what their weapon model would indicate, and the washing pole is one of them. The issue here is that this problem is only prominent in online play, and the patch notes explicitly have some entries listed as, "during online multiplayer" while this one doesn't. Maybe there is some specific aspect of the weapon that needs adjustments, like the running attack.
Several game flaws fixed
This could mean anything really, so an actual explanation would have been much appreciated.
Of course, there are some changes on the list that are quite specific and don't leave too much to the imagination, such as "Fixed a spell animation and effect not syncing up when using the magic repetitively" or "Fixed issue where skills could be performed even when a certain amount of FP was not available."
However, the others share a common issue in that "adjusted" doesn't really mean much without further explanation. Since "adjusted" isn't all too specific, it could refer to either a buff or a nerf. Sure, there could be something said about the thrill of getting down and dirty and discovering the changes yourself, but it wouldn't hurt to have better explained patch notes in the future.
