'Dark Souls 3' First-Person Mod Is Like A Brand New Game

Dark Souls players are a creative bunch. From coming up with new and unique ways to murder other players or defeating the entire game without getting hit, From Software's popular and punishing RPG franchise, and its fanbase, continue to surprise us.

Such is the case with this first-person mod for the PC version of Dark Souls 3. Created by Zulliethewitch/ShadowedImage, this mod takes what is normally a third-person action RPG and throws it into the realm of first-person, almost as if it's some long-lost version of the Elder Scrolls franchise.

While it's a little weird seeing disembodied hands hacking and slashing at foes, eventually, it doesn't stand out so much. The mod truly does add a whole new perspective to the game, and we can only imagine that it makes the already notoriously-difficult title even harder. Enemies in Dark Souls 3 are known for ambushing players, so playing in first-person without the added benefit of being able to see behind you certainly sounds like a recipe for pain and suffering — which is probably what most Dark Souls players are seeking.

Popular Dark Souls 3 video maker Iron Pineapple recently uploaded a video showing off the mod in action. You can check that out below, as he duels with fellow players and defeats AI enemies using a variety of weapons in first-person. The disembodied hands almost make the game look like it could be played in virtual reality using an Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive, which sounds both incredibly cool and incredibly terrifying at the same time. No doubt, somebody will make it happen. You can check out the mod below.

In other Dark Souls 3 news, one player recently beat the game without blocking, dodging or leveling up. That's beyond impressive. In fact, it sounds downright impossible. That being said, we'd like to see him accomplish the same feat in first-person. From Software also recently looked to address the issue of cheaters in the game by issuing a patch, but it seems like what was supposed to be a fix ended up creating even more problems for players, like frequent game freezes. You can read more about that here.
