Nintendo's Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is coming out in less than a month, and ithe company is letting fans learn even more about the Atlus-developed RPG by releasing a new trailer dubbed "Mastering Dungeons."
The trailer, once again narrated by DJ MasterSeal, goes in depth about the game's dungeons, called Idolaspheres. It spends more than 2 minutes on this explanation, detailing what can happen during exploration, shedding light on certain enemy encounters, highlighting NPCs and revealing Gangrel's (from Fire Emblem Awakening) brand-new look.
"Mastering Dungeons" begins by showing off Fortuna Entertainment's newest Mirage Masters, Itsuki Aoi, Tsubasa Oribe and Touma Akagi entering an Idolasphere where they are immediately confronted by hostile mirages. The scene doesn't automatically shift into battle, but it does show that enemies show up in a near-humanoid form, suggesting that battles are initiated by encountering physical enemies rather than through random encounters.
The trailer confirms this soon after, showing the way battles start is by Itsuki running into the physical representation of a mirage enemy in the dungeon. This is a mechanic borrowed from Persona where players can gain a pre-emptive strike in combat by hitting the avatar before it reaches them.
However, unlike Persona, even if players manage to hit the enemy to gain a pre-emptive strike, they still need to make physical contact with an enemy for combat to begin. While unique, this does open up the possibility of another enemy sneaking up behind a player before they can start battle.
It then goes on to reveal the three types of mirages that players can run into while they're exploring the Idolasphere. Standard mirages are represented by red-cloaked figures. Then there are savage mirage encounters, denoted by black-cloaked figures, who are more powerful than standard enemies and drop better loot.
Lastly, there are gold-cloaked enemies, which are rare mirages that drop precious items when defeated. This is something that was also borrowed from Persona; however, in those games, standard enemies were black, strong enemies were red and rare enemies remained gold.
An interesting twist on things are traps. Running in the wrong area can spawn new enemies, block off your path and even warp you to other places in the current dungeon.
Next, we see Gangrel from Fire Emblem Awakening but in mirage form. As one would expect, Gangrel is a boss and can summon additional enemies via the Reversal of Fortunes ability, as well as use the Dire Slice Ultra attack to put the hurt on one of your party members. Lorenz, from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light , also makes an appearance later in the trailer.
The trailer finishes by showing some actions that will be unique to each dungeon and several more battles.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE will come to North America and Europe for the Nintendo Wii U on June 24. It will be available in both standard and limited editions.
