MMORPG 'Neverwinter' Will Arrive On PlayStation 4 This Summer

It took nearly three years, but Neverwinter will finally make its way to PlayStation 4 sometime this summer.

Sony recently announced that the MMORPG based on Dungeons & Dragons will head to its console.

"Almost three years after our initial launch on PC, millions of adventurers have traveled along the Sword Coast to slay the mightiest of foes and to form the most courageous of parties," developer Perfect World's Alex Monney wrote on the PlayStation blog. "We can't wait to welcome in a new group of adventurers to Neverwinter and eagerly await their arrival."

Neverwinter allows players to create characters based on one of the eight Dungeons & Dragons character classes and form parties of up to five players. The game takes place after the disappearance of the last Lord of Neverwinter. That plunges the city into chaos where the remaining citizens begin to form factions and struggle for power while the dead rise and try to take back the city for themselves.

Sony also posted a new game trailer for the PS4 version of the MMORPG:

The PlayStation 4 version of Neverwinter will come complete with the base game, as well as all player classes and all nine expansion packs, offering gamers hundreds of quests to complete during gameplay. The game will feature monsters familiar to the Dungeons & Dragons games, as well as the related books.

"Fight against the likes of Tiamat, Demogorgon, Orcus, Valindra and many more sinister enemies from Dungeons & Dragons lore," Monney wrote. "Adventurers will also travel through iconic locations such as Icewind Dale and the Underdark while teaming up with characters straight from the novels of acclaimed author R.A. Salvatore, including Drizzt Do'Urden."

When Neverwinter released for PC in 2013, it mostly received good reviews with a score of 74 on Metacritic, with players giving it mixed or average reviews.

There is no exact release date yet for the PlayStation 4 version of Neverwinter other than "this summer." There is also no information available yet about whether the title will allow for cross-platform play. The game, though, will be free-to-play.
