The eerie and supernatural world of Oxenfree will soon head to the PlayStation 4.
Oxenfree developer Night School Studios made the announcement today, noting that the PlayStation 4 version of the game will offer players a lot of new content, including new dialogue, locations and several new endings.
Oxenfree already separates itself from other video games by not having cutscenes: all dialogue happens while characters are walking through their environments and experiencing the story. This is especially important because the game relies on communication to solve the mystery of what's going on after a group of teenagers land themselves on a decommissioned military island.
The PlayStation 4 version of the game also includes a new Game+ mode that allows players to continue the story even after the end: following playthroughs offer new dialogue options that will result in different endings, depending on the choices the player makes.
The PS4 version of the game will also utilize the DualShock 4 controller, transforming it into the supernatural radio of the game. This includes color glow changes on the lightbar as well as broadcasts coming through the controller's speaker.
"As fans have consistently asked for a PlayStation 4 version of Oxenfree, we set out to do something really special for the PS4 debut, unlike anything any other narrative game has tried," Sean Krankel, co-founder of Night School Studio, said in a press statement. "Fans have become so attached to Alex and her friends, so we created this New Game+ mode to let them impact and continue her story in a crazy way that both deepens the experience and makes it highly replayable. We want everyone to get lost in the world of Oxenfree for a long time."
PS4 players looking to delve even more into the world of Oxenfree will also get access to a downloadable dynamic theme that they can purchase either separately or bundled with the game. All players will also receive a behind-the-scenes documentary showing how the developers created the title.
Night School Studios also recently partnered with Robert Kirkman and David Alpert's Skybound Entertainment to take the concept of Oxenfree even further, including a potential film based on the video game.
Oxenfree lands on the PlayStation 4 on May 31.
