Samsung is preparing to release a new member of its Galaxy smartphone lineup. Leaked images show that the Galaxy C5 takes design cues from Apple's iPhone 6s and the HTC 10, complete with curved metal body and visible rear antenna bands.
Ever since Apple unveiled the first-generation iPhone in 2007, which packed in a large (at the time) 3.5-inch display, smartphone rivals have been taking design inspiration from the company. The look of smartphones prior to the launch of the iPhone typically featured display sizes in the 2.4-inch range and usually had a physical QWERTY keyboard located right below the screen, such as the BlackBerry Curve and Pearl and Palm Treo series.
When it was clear that Apple's iPhone was a huge success, practically all new smartphones from companies like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and LG adopted Apple's slate-style design. Physical QWERTY keyboards were replaced with software-based keyboards and larger multi-touch displays.
Apple has also taken some inspiration from its rivals in terms of design and features in its iPhone series, and is rumored to be taking a page out of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge playbook by reportedly making the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus waterproof. Tim Cook recently revealed the future devices would have new features, saying, “things you don't know you need today and can't live without,” possibly hinting at its water-resistant case design.
Samsung now appears to be taking design cues from Apple’s iPhone 6s and HTC’s just-launched flagship HTC 10 with the upcoming Galaxy C5.
Images of the Samsung Galaxy C5 have just leaked, and as you can see in the image above, it has a very similar design aesthetic as that of the iPhone 6s and HTC 10. The handset features a curved all-metal case, and like the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, its antenna bands are visible on the back of the device.
The Samsung Galaxy C5 is expected to pack in a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, Adreno 405 GPU (graphics processing unit), 4 GB of RAM and run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It will also sport a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper for video chat and selfies.
There’s no word on when or where Samsung will launch the Galaxy C5, but once we hear any new details, we’ll be sure to report them.
