Kesha And Zedd 'True Colors' New Song Collaboration Leaks After Dr. Luke Tweets Release Permission

A new Instagram post from producer Zedd confirmed that he would be releasing a new version of his song "True Colors" with fresh vocals by Kesha, who performed the song with him at this year's Coachella, and now, the song has leaked ahead of release. Following the post, Zedd clarified that, rather than using legal loopholes as observers had guessed, the release has been officially sanctioned by Dr. Luke's Kemosabe imprint on Sony records, which Dr. Luke then confirmed in a tweet.

The ongoing war between recording artist Kesha, Sony and music producer Dr. Luke has taken another interesting turn. The singer, who has accused her former producer Dr. Luke of raping and abusing her during the time in which they recorded, recently lost her legal battle to terminate her contract with Kemosabe and Sony, and has been officially barred from recording music for any other label.

When the ruling was made, various music stars expressed their support for Kesha via social media, including Zedd, who offered to do a song with her for free. When the two appeared together at Coachella recently for a performance of Zedd's song "True Colors" from his latest CD, it appeared as if a recording session might also be in the cards.

Early this week, Zedd released a cryptic post on Instagram showing him in the studio with an unseen female, but observers quickly noted it was likely Kesha based on the multicolored locks that indicate her hairstyle. Then, Kesha followed with a tweet that read, "its a miracle when someone gives you a chance at finding your voice again!!"

The following day, Zedd posted official artwork for a version of his song "True Colors" featuring Kesha on vocals, announcing the debut of the track on April 29 and stating that "music can be freedom." That led to much speculation by observers as to how exactly the release would occur, given the legal restrictions on Kesha's recordings. Many assumed that the two would be taking advantage of a legal loophole, but Zedd soon explained via Twitter, "Just to clarify: We didn't use any loop holes. Kemosabe / RCA gave us permission to release this song!"

Dr. Luke then confirmed this to be the case by tweeting back, "Thanks for the clarification" to Zedd.

Now, the track has leaked, and it proves to be a powerful emotional performance by Kesha coupled with a sweeping musical arrangement that treads light on the beats in order to showcase the singer's moving vocals. We're sure a slew of harder remixes are in the works, and the song looks set to become one of the summer's big festival anthems and could become a surprise chart hit as well.
