Recording artist and pop star Kesha has unleashed a shocking new allegation in her battle with her former producer Dr. Luke. The singer claimed in an Instagram post that she was offered release from her contract in exchange for rescinding her rape allegations against the producer.
Last month, a judge refused Kesha and her attorney's request to release her from the recording contract she is legally bound to as a result of the allegations made by Kesha against her former producer Dr. Luke. The pop diva claims Luke drugged, abused and raped her during the period of time in which they worked together, creating hit songs like "Tik Tok" and "We R Who We R." The judge found that she has no legal basis to release Kesha from the agreement and that, in addition, Kesha's claims were not well-enough substantiated.
Fellow pop stars such as Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga spoke out on behalf of the singer, while Kelly Clarkson, who worked with Dr. Luke early in her career, stated publicly that, while Luke never tried to drug or rape her, he was not a good guy. Although Kesha's lawyers recently filed an appeal to the judge's ruling, Kesha's career remains in limbo, as she refuses to record for Dr. Luke's Sony imprint to which she is contractually obligated, and the company has stated it has no intentions of releasing her.
Now, Kesha has posted on Instagram that she has in fact been offered release from her contract if she rescinds her allegations against Luke.
"So. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie," writes the singer. "I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again."
Dr. Luke's representatives, meanwhile, maintain that no such offer was actually made.
"Kesha's Instagram posting is false. The Court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr. Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims. That's because all the evidence — including Kesha's own videotaped sworn testimony — show her allegations are false. The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr. Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears, ignoring the fact that by her own free will she went to work and entered into new contracts with Dr. Luke years after this 'incident' supposedly happened."
The rep's response also claims that Kesha's sole motivation is money, and that she is using her claims to break her recording contract in order to enter into a more lucrative one.
