Apple Ad Featuring Neil Patrick Harris Touts iPhone 6s 4K Video Recording With Onions At Molecular Level

Apple's YouTube channel recently got two new ads for the iPhone 6s, and each one emphasizes one of the core features of the (still) flagship phone.

The first explains the capabilities of the Touch ID feature, while the second delivers an inspirational story based on the 4K video capture aptitude of the device.

In the second video, dubbed "Onions," the embedded 4K video capturing functionality is the main star. The video depicts a young girl who takes a video capture of her mother cutting onions, and the short clip goes viral in no time. The underlying message is that the iPhone 6s packs such a quality of 4K video capture that it can compete with professional-level gear. In the advertisement, we see the girl's video becoming increasingly popular, so much that it "changes the rules of cinema."

Apple humorously portrays theaters full of people who come to watch the "visual tour de force" that is "Onions." The clarity and emotion behind the clip inspire spectators to say that they perceive the eye-watering vegetable "at a molecular level."

A notable presence in the ad is that of Neil Patrick Harris, who awards a - wait for it ... unidentified cinema trophy to the young girl who skillfully captured her mother's kitchen skills.

The other video, titled "Fingerprint," is shorter and more in tone with Apple's previous snappy ads. It explains the wide array of actions that can be performed via the Touch ID on the iPhone 6s.

Did you know that the fingerprint scanner can do much more than unlock your smartphone? Apple explains other important capabilities, such as opening sensitive (read: banking) apps, validating purchases made via Apple Pay, signing documents, checking into flights and even starting cars. Wow.

Apple is no stranger to leveraging celebrities in its commercials and ads.

In October last year, Apple released a quirky ad featuring comedian Bill Hader, where the main point of interest was the Hey Siri feature. Even earlier that month, the OEM rolled out an ad that tantalized the new rosy gold finish of the iPhone 6s. The ad included a lighthearted comedic moment featuring Jamie Foxx.
