ARK: Survival Evolved is set to get the Official Mods program in a few weeks' time, integrating user-made content with the main game.
What this development entails is that users will have the opportunity to submit their own mods and have them included in the dino-packed title. Also, it'll bring the experience to console players who don't get to enjoy that kind of add-on often, giving the modding community more recognition and a larger audience to amaze.
Meanwhile, Studio Wildcard plans to roll out two mods. The first one is a map called The Center, and it's expected to "double the size of the current game" and feature a lot more biomes, floating islands and whatnot. The second is dubbed Primitive Plus, essentially a mode that'll limit the players to only wood and stone on all ARK maps.
The video game company hasn't detailed exactly what the modders will get out of the whole deal, but at any rate, the attention they'll get is more than welcome.
"We really appreciate and value the hard work and effort that goes into the mods from the community and will do what we can to help, this new program is another step we're going to take to ensure that modders get all the support they need and are recognized for their contribution and efforts in ARK," Studio Wildcard says.
As for availability, the Official Mods program will go live in May along with The Center for the Xbox One and PC. On the other hand, Primitive Plus is already available on the PC but has yet to arrive on the console.
It should also be noted that the full game release has been rescheduled to holiday 2016 across the PC, Xbox One and PS4. Adding in this magnitude of features and content takes a lot of hard work, so the delay shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
"We never anticipated adding modding, local multiplayer, split screen, or numerous other upcoming features. The game at launch will be far more robust than originally conceived, but it takes a little extra time to wrap it all up," Jesse Rapczak, co-founder of Studio Wildcard, says.
