It's the beginning of the end for "The Hunger Games" movie series, and all out war has broken out in Panem.
"Mockingjay" (the book) is about heroine Katniss Everdeen reluctantly assuming the role that destiny has for her and won't take no for an answer: the symbol of the rebellion against the Capitol regime of President Snow. So it makes sense that the final poster for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" features Jennifer Lawrence posing as the title character, framed by bird wings.
Here it is.
There are a few things to notice. One of the first items that grabs your attention is Katniss' intricately detailed uniform. As book readers know, this outfit was designed for her by Cinna before the events of "Catching Fire," so it is custom tailored to both emphasize her symbolic role and to protect her during combat. District 13 has spared no expense in its construction, and you can bet it's much more impressive than anything the war's soldiers are wearing. If you look closely, you can see that she's still wearing her original mockingjay pin.
The other thing that grabs you is Lawrence's expression. Look deep into her face and you'll see a whole range of emotions barely hidden beneath a calm exterior. There's a hint of fear, there's resolve, there's pain and grief, and most of all, there's a strong vibe of resignation. By this point in the saga, she's begun to realize that she has no choice but to go through the motions, to be the figure the rebels need her to be. She's trying to be strong, but a person can only be put through so much. There's almost a hypnotic quality to her expression.
In addition to the poster, Lionsgate has also released this brief teaser thing for the final trailer. It's only 15 seconds long, so don't blink.
Hey Hollywood, stop putting out these stupid trailer teasers! If you want to hype your upcoming trailer, announce when it's coming. Don't toy with us with these teeny snippets. We get all excited and then it's like...
Does it bug anybody else when studios do this? The very idea of a-trailer-for-a-trailer is an Inceptionache waiting to happen.
Because next they'll give us a one-second teaser that teases the 15-second teaser that teases the 2-minute trailer that teases the movie.
