Rayman Origins has been added to the Microsoft Xbox One backward compatibility list.
The Xbox One did not have native backward compatibility with Xbox or Xbox 360 at its launch in 2013. However, in November 2015 Microsoft launched Xbox One backward compatibility, and now gamers can play more than 100 Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One.
"Now you can play a growing number of your Xbox 360 games on Xbox One at no additional cost. With over 100 titles available now, and hundreds more in the months to come, Xbox One is now the best place to play your Xbox 360 games. Experience the greatest games lineup in Xbox history - exclusively on Xbox One," says Microsoft.
Backward compatibility has been very popular in the gaming community and titles like The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Small Arms, Age of Booty and more have been added to the backward compatibility list.
According to the Xbox blog, millions of Xbox gamers across the globe have already logged more than 21 million hours playing Xbox One backward-compatible games and the numbers are increasing rapidly.
Larry Hryb, the director of programming for Microsoft Xbox Live, tweeted about the addition of Rayman Origins to the backward compatibility list of Xbox One.
Rayman Origins is a 2D side-scrolling platform game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft. The game is the fourth major title in the Rayman series. At its release in 2011, Rayman Origins was available on a number of gaming platforms including Xbox 360.
The good thing about backward compatibility is no additional cost. Gamers can play their Xbox 360 games they own on an Xbox One. Backward compatibility allows retaining game saves, add-ons, Gamerscore and achievements.
Gamers can also enjoy advanced features of the Xbox One such as Game DVR, Windows 10 streaming and screenshots. Backward compatibility also allows multiplayer play with friends no matter which gaming console they are using.
Customers who own a disc copy of Rayman Origins will have to simply insert it in the Xbox One. The console will automatically start downloading the game to the hard drive. Gamers should note that after the download has finished, the disc should still be in the console if they wish to play the game.
Microsoft has been actively adding games to the Xbox One backward compatibility list and gamers will hope that the company continues to add more games in the months to come.
