The so-called "Supermoon" made its final appearance of 2014 on Monday, September 8.
Supermoons occur when the moon is full and makes it closest approach to Earth in its orbit, making it appear dramatically larger and brighter than usual. This recent event was the third supermoon of the summer, with the previous events occurring on July 12 and August 10.
The September 8 supermoon is also known as the Harvest Moon because of its proximity to the autumn equinox. It was a sight to behold around the globe. Here are some of the best images of the event from around Twitter.
