Sony is releasing 'Max Payne' to PS4 as a 'PS2 Classic' on April 22. The release date has been confirmed for Europe for now, while it is not known if the makers will roll out the game for PS4 users in the U.S. or any other region.
Max Payne is definitely a classic -- a game that put Remedy Entertainment on the map before Quantum Break became the next big thing. The grimacing hero who came almost a decade ago is still a favorite, and now the very first game will be available for PS4 this week.
While no information has been shared yet, it would be safe to assume that, like all PS2 Classic games, Max Payne should also be upgraded to 1080p, and would support PS4 features like Trophies, Shareplay, and Remote Play. Apart from this, it should pretty much remain the nostalgic game that you played some 10 years ago.
Max Payne first came into the picture in 2001 when it was released for PS2, Xbox, and PC. The title of the game was developed by Remedy, who subsequently sold off the rights to Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two.
We had reported way back in December about Max Payne making it to Sony's list for PS4 games. After popular names like Star Wars Bounty Hunter, Grand Theft Auto III, and Bully, Max Payne will finally be the 22nd game to enter PS2 Classics in PS4. Is that why Sony has kept the release date at April 22? While that might be a sheer coincidence, Sony is definitely going to add more titles to these 22 games at frequent intervals.
However, this is not the first time that EU Blog had listed May Payne as a potential entry for PS4. But Sony's Francesca Mead reaffirmed that the decade-old game is indeed on its way when someone posted a question asking if this time the news was for real.
