There was not a lot Finn Jones could reveal about Iron Fist but the show is in production and that means that he is steeped deep in preparations to be the superhero.
In an interview, the Game of Thrones star shared what a typical day for him now. According to Jones, he starts off his day with a couple of hours of martial arts, which mixes wushu and kung fu with some tai chi, and does weight training in the afternoon to bulk him up for the role. In the evenings, he has meditation classes and buddhist philosophies to round up his day.
It's a lot of work but it's also a lot of fun for Jones, who said that he's always dreamed of a role that brought together the typical superhero badass and spiritual discipline.
"This is the kind of role I've been waiting for for a long time ... I'm super excited," he said.
Jones' casting was announced in February and it was met by opposition from groups urging Marvel to cast an Asian actor instead. He's got his work cut out for him to prove he deserves the role but at least we know he's a capable fighter. Now if only he could translate that Jaime Lannister-beating swordmanship into martial arts.
Jones will be joined by fellow Game of Thrones star Jessica Henwick, who played the whip-wielding Sand Snake, Nymeria Sand, in the HBO drama. She was cast as Colleen Wing, a martial arts expert who becomes Danny Rand's ally.
Iron Fist follows Rand's story as he returns to New York City after dealing with a tragedy in his family. After living in K'un L'un, he mastered kung-fu and the ability to summon the incredible power of the Iron Fist, both of which he will be using to fight criminal elements in the city.
There are no details yet on when Iron Fist will be premiering on Netflix but it can be assumed the show will not come until at least 2017. Scott Buck (Six Feet Under, Dexter) is attached to the project as showrunner.
