Part of ensuring a new smartphone's success is getting as many carriers to offer the handset as possible. Samsung got just that with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile all announcing they will launch its new phablets.
Apple and Samsung currently own the smartphone market and both companies are launching new smartphones back to back.
Apple has planned a Sept. 9 media event where it's widely believed Tim Cook and company will officially introduce the iPhone 6. Unlike last year's iPhone 5 series launch of the flagship iPhone 5s and midrange iPhone 5c, Apple is widely expected to debut two new flagship iPhone 6 models in the form of a 4.7-inch handset and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6, the company's first foray into the phablet world dominated by Samsung's Galaxy Note series.
Samsung launched its new flagship Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge during a recent media event. In typical Samsung fashion, the company has pulled out all the stops in terms of features, specs, and design for its two new phablets. The Galaxy Note 4 improves upon its Note 3 predecessor in several areas. The phablet uses the same 5.7-inch display size from the Note 3, but instead of using a 1920 x 1080 Full HD display, the company has chosen to incorporate a gorgeous Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Samsung also used a similar design language that it introduced with the Galaxy Alpha, which features a premium metal frame around the smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is essentially the Galaxy Note 4 in a plastic body with a unique curved display that allows users to essentially have two displays on one device. The Note Edge's display curves around the right side of the device and offers shortcuts to apps, settings, and notifications. We now know that AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile will offer both the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge in the very near future.
Verizon posted a signup page for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge that will alert customers when the devices will be available for preorder.
AT&T released a press release announcing that it would be among the first to offer the Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 and said pricing and availability would be announced at a later date.
Sprint followed with its own statement confirming it would offer its customers both phablets in the future.
T-Mobile chimed in and announced that it will offer its customers the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.
While no carrier has announced an exact release date, both the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 are expected to go on sale on all four carriers in October. We'll of course keep you posted on any news regarding both devices.
