Samsung Galaxy Note 4 specs, release date, and price: What to expect from Sept. 3 Unpacked event

Samsung is about to unveil its next-generation Galaxy Note 4 phablet at its Unpacked events on Sept. 3. Here's the latest information on what we can expect to hear Samsung announce at simultaneous events in Beijing, Berlin and New York.

The phablet world is about to see Apple crash the over-sized smartphone trend Samsung started when it launched the original Galaxy Note at IFA Berlin in 2011. Apple's iPhone 6 is expected to be available in a 4.7-inch model and a phablet-sized 5.5-inch variant. The company is targeting its main rival's flagship devices, the Galaxy S5 and upcoming Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung has reigned supreme in the phablet arena and has already sold over 60 million Galaxy Note phablets. The company will officially announce the Galaxy Note 4 on Sept. 3 at its main Unpacked event to kickoff IFA in Berlin. Here's the latest on what we can expect to hear Samsung announce in terms of design, specs, release date, carrier support and pricing.

We recently reported on leaked images of what is reportedly the Galaxy Note 4. The design is believed to closely match the just-announced Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The new design includes a metal frame that gives the smartphone a more premium feel, while also keeping it lightweight.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is expected to ship with the same 5.7-inch display size found on the Galaxy Note 3 but include a Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, compared with the Note 3's 1920 x 1080 Full HD display. It will be released with different processors depending on region; a 1.3-GHz Samsung Exynos 5433 octa-core processor in China and other regions and a 2.5-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor in the U.S. It's also believed that Samsung will increase the Note 4's RAM to a hefty 4 GB.

Its camera capabilities are said to include a high-end 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and 3.68-megapixel front-facing shooter. It will pack in 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128-GB microSD cards.

There have been reports that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will sport both a UV sensor and possibly a retina scanner, in addition to a heart rate monitor located on the phablet's rear case.

Most reports claim Samsung is planning to make the Galaxy Note 4 available worldwide for purchase in mid-September. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile are all expected to announce launch plans after Samsung makes the phablet official. The price of the Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be around $299 when signing a new 2-year contract.

We'll be covering Samsung's Unpacked event on Sept. 3 and will report back all of the official details of the Galaxy Note 4.
