The Knicks Can Say They Won At Something This Season

Aside from Carmelo Anthony being an All-Star starter once again and Kristaps Porzingis' brilliant rookie campaign, this season has been another dismal showing for the New York Knicks.

After a respectable 22-22 start to the 2015-16 season, the Knicks suffered a painful free-fall, losing nine out of their next 10 games, resulting in the firing of head coach Derek Fisher. The firing was especially troubling, considering that Knicks president Phil Jackson hand-picked Fisher as his coach, and he couldn't even make it through two full seasons after leading the squad to a franchise-worst 17-win mark in 2014-15.

However, as bad as it has been with the Knicks sporting a 32-49 record with one game left in the season, at least the orange-and-blue faithful can cheer for one victory this year — Derrick Williams winning the squad's FIFA tournament.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a team around the NBA more into FIFA than the Knicks. That boast has been more than on display with the team over the course of this season, as they've constantly taken to social media to broadcast and keep fans up to date with its ongoing tourney.

Well, what started as an eight-man tournament was whittled down to two, with Knicks center Kevin Seraphin up against power forward Derrick Williams for rights to the FIFA championship title. Yes, the team took its FIFA gaming tournament so seriously that it even made a championship belt.

Well, when the dust cleared, Williams had edged Seraphin to win the title.

Hate to say it, Knicks fans, but take a good hard look at this title. Considering the current up-in-the-air state that the franchise is in, it's safe to say this FIFA belt will be the only title the Knicks will be winning for quite some time. At least Derrick Williams, a former No. 2 draft pick, can claim to be a winner of something this season.

Better than nothing ... although Knicks fans' sorrow continues.
