Get your demon-hunting weapons ready and prepare for a bloody and violent trip to hell: the Doom open beta goes live next week.
This is good news for players who didn't get in on the multiplayer closed beta that ran last week. Now, those players have a second chance: the public open beta begins on April 15 and runs through April 17.
Bethesda made the announcement on Wednesday, making sure to point out that players wanting join the beta do not need codes to do so. However, the beta will be limited to two specific maps: Heatwave and Infernal, and the only game modes available are Team Deathmatch and Warpath.
The game developer also revealed more details about Doom's Snapmap feature, which will launch with the full version of the title. SnapMap allows players to create their own modes of Doom and then share those with the gaming community. The final version of the game will also have a total of six multiplayer modes. Combined with SnapMap, that pretty much covers every kind of gameplay Doom fans can imagine.
"We know the Doom community has always been about great user-generated content, and that's something we want to continue to encourage with SnapMap, an innovative new component of Doom designed to make creating, sharing and playing new game experiences fast and easy," Bethesda writes. "On top of being able to access and play new modes and maps created by your fellow gamers, Id [Software] plans to offer content updates for SnapMap, including map modules; props and objects; additional features and functionality; AI enhancements; editing tool enhancements and more."
Finally, Bethesda revealed more details about what players can expect from the multiplayer DLC packs and the Doom season pass. The company plans on releasing three premium DLC packs, which will include new maps, customizations, playable demons, weapons and hack modules.
Each DLC pack retails for $14.99 individually, or users can purchase a season pass that includes all DLC released for the title for $39.99. The first pack will arrive sometime this summer.
Doom explodes onto PCs, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on May 13.
