Doom's cover art is not good. When it was officially revealed a few weeks back, fans and critics alike hammered it for being generic, ugly and having absolutely nothing to say about the game within. It featured a stereotypical space marine holding a gun, standing in front of a yellow background with the "Doom" logo splashed across the front.
Not exactly the most exciting cover for what is sure to be one of the most adrenaline-pumping shooters of the year. Thankfully, it looks like Bethesda has heard the cries of fans loud and clear. The publisher has now revealed that Doom will feature a reversible cover, and that fans can vote on which piece of art they would like to see included.
Needless to say, both of these alternate cover picks are far superior to the game's standard, space marine and logo cover art. One is clearly inspired by the artwork of the original Doom, and features a lone space marine engaged in a bloody war with a sea of demons in what looks to be hell itself. The other adopts a more ominous look, with a Satanic pentagram on one half and a red-eyed demon on the other, both against a black background.
Fans can vote for their favorite via Bethesda's Twitter poll. Option B is the demon battle, while option A is the black cover. The poll is open for the next four days, with the artwork that receives the most votes set to appear as the game's official reverse cover.
So far option B (the demon war) is winning by a fairly sizable margin, but it's still early in the vote. Even if your pick doesn't win, hopefully Bethesda will release higher-resolution versions of both covers so that gamers can print out their own and replace the default one if need be.
