Radiohead surprised fans by dropping new music in an exclusive way, releasing music through their audio-visual app.
The app, called PolyFauna, is a collaboration between Radiohead and developers at Universal Everything, and is described as being an "immersive, expansive world of primitive life, weather, sunsets, mountains and forest."
The trippy app was first released in February as part of a companion to their 2011 album, "The Kings of Limbs. " The newly released music on the app is a taste of what will come next for the band as they hit the studio this month.
"We're meeting up at the end of the summer, and we'll make a plan. But, you know, we're a slow-moving animal, always have been. I guess we'll decide then what we do next," guitarist Jonny Greenwood said back in March.
Lead vocalist Thom Yorke tweeted photos of the app update, which is known for draining phone battery power. As part of the update, the band released music that features one of tracks from "The King of Limbs" accompanied with visuals of psychedelic, moving landscapes.
Users get to explore imaginative landscapes while listening to Radiohead's unique sound. The update includes all-new trippy soundscapes, with some of the unreleased soundscapes featuring Thom Yorke vocals. The app is also said to be more fluid than the last version.
This is the first "new" music Radiohead has released since their three-year hiatus following their 2011 album release. The new music is not for sale or available for download, but the app is available on iTunes and Google Play.
