Bungie has announced that the upcoming Destiny update for April will feature a new way for players to customize their weapons and armor as well as several Legendary and Exotic items from Year One items that have been updated for Year Two.
New Guardian Customization System
During a livestream session on Twitch this week, Bungie said that the April patch will introduce gamers to the new Chroma customization system that can be used to tweak the look of their weapons and armor to match their personal style.
Guardians will have to obtain new in-game items known as Chroma that they can apply to their gear to change their color to either red, yellow, white, or blue, which looks more like teal.
Chroma can be applied to individual pieces of armor, giving players more options to mix and match the four colors for their gear. However, this isn't the same for weapons, which can only use a single color at a time.
New Gear
The April Destiny update will also add three new armor sets for players to collect. These are Desolate, Spektar and Spektar Heliopause. The Desolate armor set takes inspiration from the look of items first introduced in the Destiny: Taken King expansion, and retrieving every piece is the only way to get the emote "Shiver".
Both the Desolate armor and the new material Chroma can be obtained through a new type of mystery box known as Sterling Treasure, which will appear in the game three times a week. Players can typically find these boxes through the weekly playlist of the Crucible, from the Postmaster and after finishing a Prison of Elders activity (Level 41). The resulting Chroma color of each box is random.
Guardians can also head to the Eververse Trading Company to purchase Sterling Treasure. Here they can also find other new emotes that will be included in the April patch.
How To Use Chroma
If you've already used a Chroma on a piece of armor, but you want to have the color changed, you can do so by spending 100 Glimmer. However, this disables the previous Chroma material applied and you will have to add a new one.
Year One Item Updates
Aside from the Chroma system and the new armor sets, Bungie said that the April update will also feature updated versions of select Year One Legendary and Exotic weapons, which will have better attack ratings.
Some of the guns included in the patch are The Devil You Know, the LDR 5001, the Badger CCL, The Swarm, the Shadow Price, the Grim Citizen III, the Lord High Fixer, the Y-09 Longbow Synthesis and the Zombie Apocalypse WF47.
So far, the exotic Year One items that have been given Year Two updates include the Titan helm Eternal Warrior, the Hunter chest armor Lucky Raspberry and the shotgun Universal Remote.
Bungie added that the patch will adjust the Light cap for Guardians to 335. This means players can now get gear drops at the level, particularly during activities such as the Challenge of the Elders, Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, Court of Oryx and King's Fall in hard mode.
Destiny's April update will be made available on April 12. Players have to have the Taken King expansion installed in order to run the new patch.
