It may have been a long time coming, but Destiny players can now look forward to new content coming in April. Bungie detailed much of that new content today in a Twitch stream, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect when the game's update goes live on April 12.
The biggest news came first: the light level cap is being raised to 335. As such, players will find activities like Prison of Elders, heroic strikes, nightfall strikes and the Fall of Oryx raid (as well as Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris) will all have increased rewards fitting of the new light level cap.
Perhaps the most substantial part of the new update will be a retooled level 41 version of the Prison of Elders. Players will be able to take on new bosses in the survival mode, including a new variation on the Prison that has players attempting to earn a high score. Those who do are guaranteed high-level weapons and armor. Bungie says the new Prison of Elders will offer four months of varying challenges that won't repeat, with rotating score modifiers also affecting how players will tackle the challenge.
Variks, the NPC who will be dishing out rewards and challenges for the Prison of Elders, will also be the contact for a new quest line and strike. Though players defeated the Taken King, the Taken still remain a threat, and as such players will be tasked with hunting down a Taken Prince before he can grow too powerful. An older strike, Winter's Run, will also be revamped into a Taken strike, where players will encounter the enemies from Destiny's latest expansion. Petra Venj in the Reef will also be offering a new quest line, though these quests (and their rewards) will be exclusive to PlayStation for the time being.
The Reef itself will serve as the hub for the update, as it will be where players go to receive new quests and accept new Prison of Elders-related challenges. As such, Bungie is adding an Eververse Trading Company station to the Reef, which will offer emotes and dances not offered at the Tower location.
New gear and weapons are coming in the update, but Bungie is saving those details for a future live stream. It did, however, give fans a glimpse at one new weapon during its time on air:
Bungie will return to Twitch on March 30 to detail new gear, followed by an April 6 live stream titled "Sandbox and Crucible Updates." We will have more information on the game's largest post-Taken King update then.
