Elephone made a staple through pouring out new smartphones that merge a solid configuration, sleek design, user-oriented features and competitive prices.
The company rolled out three such handsets in the past few months, and customers commended the Elephone M2, P9000 and Vowney.
A report from GizmoChina says that the design-focused Elephone S3, which packs an attractive metallic unibody design without the much-derided bezels, will hit store shelves next month.
Under the polished, premium-looking exterior, the Elephone S3 reportedly packs a MediaTek eight-core MT6753 chipset, which is backed by 3 GB of RAM for processing power. The standard internal storage is 16 GB.
The visuals will appear on a 5.2-inch full HD display, which translates to a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Seeing how Elephone has a good track record of embedding Sony's camera in its devices, it comes as no surprise that the Elephone S3 features a 13-megapixel Sony snapper as its main camera. Aside from the rear main camera, the back of the smartphone shows a fingerprint sensor, which Elephone lists as "Touch ID."
No buttons will be present on the front of the Elephone S3, meaning that users will need to press the display to activate essential functions such as Menu or Back.
The power source is slightly lackluster, as the handset holsters a 2,100 mAh battery. Although it is true that the Elephone S3 is a solid midranger that does not gulp on juice as much as a high-end device, there is concern that the battery could deplete rather quickly.
It could be argued that the manufacturer was left with no other option, given the thinness of the smartphone. However, other OEMs (such as Xiaomi in its Mi5) managed to cram a much more powerful power source within almost the same dimensions as with Elephone S3. The two smartphones are quite similar, and Elephone even made a design close-up video to compare the Xiaomi Mi 5 and its Elephone S3.
The company did not go into details about the price of its upcoming midrange phone, but the Elephone S3 is expected to be available in four color options: silver, gray, gold and rose gold.
There is no official information about the release date, but GizmoChina expects the Elephone S3 to roll out in April.
