Apparently, controllers come in all shapes and sizes, from premium customizable ones to even cosmetics. Yes, no typo there, as Chloe Desmoineaux turns a lipstick into a full-fledged controller called Lipstrike to play Counter-Strike.
How does she manage to kick butts and take names without the traditional keyboard-mouse combo? Well, she didn't just tinker with a lipstick tube but also with the settings in the game to make the mouse handle more of the load- left click to move, right click to aim and the mouse wheel to change weapons.
To pull the trigger or slash with a knife, she presses the lipstick on her face to complete the command input. That's possible all thanks to Makey Makey, a kit that can make a functional controller out of virtually any object, including a banana piano and a paper controller.
"Counter-Strike is one of those games that's mainly attributed to a male audience. Lipstick for girls, war games for boys. F**k that! I can mix it up ... If it visually works and the resulting effect is comical, maybe it's because we all use shortcuts and stereotypes embedded in our heads. It's in this spirit that I got the idea for Lipstrike," Desmoineaux tells Motherboard via email.
This is definitely one of those "you have to see it to believe it" sort of deals, and it's way more interesting to see it happen than to read it on paper. Of course, this comes with a couple of risks, particularly if the user gets into the game too much and ends up looking like the Joker prepping up for a date with Batman.
Anyway, don't forget to hit up the video below to see Desmoineaux armed with Lipstrike in motion, taking down one foe after the other.
For those who can't get enough of the cosmetic action, she will stream sessions once a week on her Twitch page until June.
