2K Sports fans may not be fans much longer after the gaming franchise broke a promise to deliver a Diamond player when the NBA2K Twitter account hit one million followers.
Well, after two long-ish years, the "@NBA2K" Twitter account finally garnered up a whole one million followers but there is still no Diamond player on offer.
The original promise was made on May 29, 2014. The 2K Sports Twitter account tweeted at the time that once it hits that mark, fans will get the neat reward.
The Diamond player promised - one of those super rare players such as Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson that gamers can recruit to their MyTeams - never showed up. Naturally, NBA2K players were unhappy, and they sure showed it.
But what really happened to the deal then? It turns out that it changed and it was misunderstood. NBA 2K's community manager, @Ronnie2K, took to Twitter and replied to a curious gamer about the promise, clarifying that it did not extend to this year.
In fact, the NBA 2K Twitter account is for the entire series, so it seems that when the promise was made, it was made for NBA 2K14.
However, the deal wasn't entirely off even when NBA 2K15 and NBA 2K16 eventually came out. Rather, it just changed and then it got misunderstood. There would still be a reward for breaching the one million followers mark, and that reward would be a chance to win a Diamond player.
Of course, a chance to win a Diamond player didn't mean that everyone would get a Diamond player, and thus the confusion and anger so far. Some gamers, nonetheless, did get quite lucky by finding players like Steph Curry and James Harden upon opening their random item.
Most players though got much, much less. Using the Random Item Locker Code "1MILLION", most players have received varying amounts of VC while some got "special prizes" that include outfits for players' MyPlayer. Yeah, just a plain t-shirt.
And gamers got mad. As of this writing, the NBA2K Twitter account "@NBA2K" has dwindled back down to under one million followers and currently shows a following of just 999K. Will 2K Sports offer up a new promise and actually stick to it? We bet not.
