Late last month, NBA 2K16 was brutally honest in saying it was having trouble virtualizing Stephen Curry to properly capture all the elements of his dynamic game, whether it be his ridiculous deep shooting range, absurd handle or passing ability.
"To be completely honest, we are still looking for ways to better translate his game into NBA 2K," Mike Wang, gameplay director of NBA 2K, told Forbes this past February. "He's a 'rule breaker' when it comes to jump shooting ... he becomes a problem in the video game world where we've been trying to train our gamers [to know] that certain types of shots should be rewarded versus others."
Well, while the minds at NBA 2K diligently work on encompassing all of Curry's skillset, in the meantime, it is bringing the reigning league MVP one step closer to greatness.
Fox Sports spotted that an update to the title's rosters Thursday bumped Curry's rating up to 98.
That's significant, considering the one player from the one season to have a higher rating in the game is none other than Michael Jordan, who received a 99 rating for his body of work in the 1995-96 NBA season. That season had MJ leading his Chicago Bulls to an all-time single season best record of 72-10, a mark that Curry's Golden State Warriors (55-5) are more than threatening with the best record in league history through 60 games.
So, call it art imitating life with Curry getting one step closer to MJ in both video games and on the court itself by leading his team to what's currently the best team record of all time. Curry has been on an absolute tear this season, averaging a career high 30.7 points per game and looking every bit as the hands-down winner to repeat as MVP.
That's after he already helped lead the Warriors to an NBA title last season. What an encore it would be if he could make it back-to-back rings with the league's best single season record in tow.
We are witnessing greatness — both on the court in real life and in NBA 2K16 — when it comes to Curry.
