Stephen Curry is sitting on top of the world.
After helping to lead the Golden State Warriors to the 2015 NBA championship, the reigning league MVP and three-time All-Star point guard can now attach another accolade to his name — being the most-watched athlete on YouTube.
Buzzfeed announced Thursday that Curry has piled up upwards of 140 million views on the video-streaming giant in only the past six months, edging out the likes of fellow NBA superstar LeBron James, NFL MVP Cam Newton and soccer star Lionel Messi. The website added that Curry's YouTube numbers average to nearly one million hours viewed per month for a stunning breakdown of 30,000-plus hours daily. Wow!
So, what are Curry's most popular and top video generators on YouTube? Well, the No. 1 spot is a 15-second video published by the NBA, showing future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant giving Curry credit for draining a long three-pointer during an October 2014 regular-season game between the Warriors and the Black Mamba's Los Angeles Lakers. Take a look.
An undoubtedly awesome moment when one of the game's best players ever gives a nod of respect on the hardwood to arguably the greatest shooter in NBA history. That clip has amassed nearly 7.6 million YouTube views.
The next most-watched video under Curry's name circles back to March 2014, when he engaged then-Warriors coach Mark Jackson in a highly-competitive shooting contest. The clip has totaled 6.4 million YouTube views to date. Interestingly enough, there's also a clip of Curry engaging current Warriors coach Steve Kerr in a shooting contest floating around on YouTube as well.
Coming in third is a mashup of Curry highlights, keying in on his slick handling of the basketball to lethal crossovers — footage that has generated nearly six million views on the video-streaming service.
Curry being the most-watched athlete also indicates how much fans are falling in love with his personality and family. Two major YouTube videos, starring his three-year-old daughter Riley, have amassed over a combined 10.6 million views, while a video of Curry and his wife chatting has totaled over four million.
With Curry currently leading the league in scoring and having the Warriors (48-4) on a crazed pace to edge the Chicago Bulls' all-time greatest regular-season mark of 72-10, it seems like there will be many more videos to keep him as the most-watched athlete.
