Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day set to go on 'Vacation'

It's time again to go down the Holiday Road, and this time, Thor is coming along. You read that right, actor Chris Hemsworth has joined the new Vacation movie, starring Ed Helms that starts shooting in September according to ComingSoon.net. There is not much news to go on, but rumor has it that Hemsworth will have a cameo appearance in the Vacation reboot. He will be playing anchorman Stone Crandall, the husband of Rusty's sister, Audrey.

Also along for the ride is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Charlie Day. The comic actor is set to play a small part as a river rafting guide in this reboot. The original, and wildly successful, series from the '80s and '90s starred Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. The original, which is considered by most to be one of the superior comedies of its era, was written by the late John Hughes and directed by the late Harold Ramis. Over the years, the Griswold family took their various vacations from Wally World to Europe, celebrating Christmas and hitting Vegas along the way.

The new version of the film with, The Office's Helms, has Christina Applegate appearing as his wife. The twist is that Helms is the grown up version of none other than Rusty Griswold. The part of Audrey has not been cast yet. Apparently, Audrey is married to Hemsworth's character in the new film. Rusty has his own family now and is hellbent on making his family vacations even better than the ones his dad planned. If box office is any indicator, Helms has become a comedy heavyweight. His Hangover series made big bucks and his independent film Cedar Rapids proved that he is a more than competent comedic lead.

The new film from Warner Bros. is set to have first time directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who also collaborated on the script as well. Chris Bender, David Dobkin, Jeff Kleeman are producing.

The original Griswolds, Chase and D'Angelo, are also set to make cameos in what the studio hopes will be a new comedy franchise. While the film has already been delayed several times, New Line looks to be all set for shooting in just a few weeks. Hopefully, there will not be any more delays and we can finally go on this long-gestating Vacation.
