Marvel Comics continues to reshape the comic book landscape by debuting a new female Thor later this year. You read that right; Marvel is set to make big changes to the Asgardian God of Thunder this October.
The shakeup will have an entirely new Thor in female form taking the mantle as the iconic hero. It is unclear as to who this mystery female is and what her qualifications are for being the chosen one that will hold Mjolnir.
"The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription. The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!" Marvel editor Wil Moss said in a press release.
The girl power of Marvel's stable of characters cannot be denied as there are now eight lead female characters from the House of Ideas. Clearly Marvel is aiming to attract a whole new market share with the addition of the new female Thor.
"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thore we've ever seen before," says series writer Jason Aaron. Taking on the penciling duties is artist Russell Dauterman.
The shakeup is causing big waves, and it is clear that this is going to be a major Marvel event when the first issue hits stores in October. This whole new era of God of Thunder will most certainly attract the targeted demographic making the new series a historic chapter in the Thor universe.
It is unclear how this will affect Thor's Avengers status, but one thing at a time. The character is shrouded in mystery at this point, leaving fans to make all sorts of guesses of just where this character came from.
Sales are certain to be up for this new God of Thunder when the first issue is released. It is also unclear how this new chapter in the world of Thor will affect the rest of the Marvel Universe. Whoever she is, this new Thor is already causing buzz and making waves on Internet message boards.
