Verizon finally rolls out Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 to the public, a few weeks after it took down the details of the update on its support pages on Feb. 12.
Needless to say, the details are back up again on the carrier's website.
As it turns out, the Verizon update is divided into two parts. The first one will initially bring the software version of users' Droid Turbo 2 to 23.31.24. The second one will bump that version number up again to 24.14.10, and just to be clear, this'll provide the Marshmallow part of things.
It's also worth mentioning that a soak test of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Droid Turbo 2 commenced just recently, and it's a clear sign that the update is about to go official.
Now, it'll deliver a ton of new features to every Droid Turbo 2 under Verizon's reach, and here are a couple of noteworthy ones in store:
Now On Tap
This feature allows users to conveniently get Google Now results based on the context that's currently on the screen. For instance, when a user taps and holds the home button while on the text messaging app, Now on Tap will pull up a selection of links and information depending on what the conversation is about.
Doze Mode And App Standby
In an effort to conserve battery as much as possible, Marshmallow brings Doze mode, a feature that will turn off background processes when the device goes idle. As another step toward that direction, App Standby can set apps to a "reduced-activity state" to save power.
Storage
The SD card now has two functions: portable storage or internal storage. When it's on portable storage mode, it'll store the usual media files such as photos, videos and music. On internal storage mode, it'll essentially serve as an extension of the device's native capacity, allowing users to install and store apps and games in addition to media files.
Attentive Display
Yet another battery-saving feature, Attentive Display will automatically turn off the smartphone's screen when the user looks away from it.
Verizon published all the details on its support page. Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Verizon Droid Turbo 2 should already be up by now, but even if it's still not available, it wouldn't hurt to go to Settings and check for software updates there.
