The arcade game Star Wars: Battle Pod lets players relive some of the Star Wars saga's greatest battles, including the attack on the Death Star, the attack on the second Death Star, the battle of Hoth and more. Soon, yet another Star Wars battle will be added to that list: the Battle of Takodana.
If that battle sounds unfamiliar, it's because it is one of the newest skirmishes to happen in the Star Wars universe. More specifically, it is the name of the battle that happens around Maz's cantina in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, as Finn, Han Solo and Chewbacca battle the First Order on the ground before Poe Dameron's X-Wing squadron arrives to triumphantly save the day.
It's the aerial aspect of the battle on which Star Wars Battle Pod will be focusing. According to Arcade Heroes, Bandai Namco will be updating its Star Wars Battle Pod arcade machines with the new level this summer. 4Gamer.net (according to Arcade Heroes) says the update will be coming in May, but that those who have purchased the special home versions of the machine (for the low, low price of $35,000) may already have access to the stage.
Either way, it's interesting that Bandai Namco decided to focus on this battle instead of the attack on Starkiller Base that served as the film's climax. The whole sequence does play out fairly closely to the original attack on the Death Star, so perhaps Bandai Namco wanted a new level that would stand out from the rest of the game's existing stages. Outside of The Force Awakens Disney Infinity 3.0 playset, the arrival of the new stage for Star Wars Battle Pod will be the first time players will be able to experience events from the new film in video game form.
You can read more about Star Wars Battle Pod here. The game features a panoramic optical display that makes for one immersive game experience. When combined with the "Pod's" vibrating chair and the gusts of air that shoot out during certain moments, the game does a great job at putting you in the movies.
