The only way to get your child to call you back is to force them call you back, at least that's what one mom believes. Sharon Standifird, a mom with no previous tech experience, taught herself how to create an app that makes her kids call her back.
Standifird developed the app Ignore No More. The app allows parents to control their child's phone by locking it until they call the.
"We need to develop an app that just shuts their phone completely down and they can't even use it," Standifird says. "I got on the Internet and I literally just started researching how to develop an app.
Ignore No More requires the parent to enter in their child's name and a four-digit code that will immediately lock the phone. The child can then only use the phone to call contacts selected by the parent and will need the password to unlock it.
Standifird created the app after becoming frustrated that her teen son didn't respond to calls or texts. "I do have to say that he responds to my texts and my calls a whole lot quicker than he used to," Standifird says.
Developing the app was easy for Standifird, who has served in the Gulf War and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. "Anything she's really set her mind to, she's done," her husband, William Standifird says.
Her son thinks it's a good idea for other children, naturally excluding himself.
"It takes away texting, it takes away gaming, it takes away calling their friends, surfing the Internet. If there's an emergency, the child will always be able to call 911. It's a feature that no developer can take off the phone," Standifird says.
The app costs $1.99 and is available for Android only on Google Play. Standifird is currently working on an iOS version of Ignore No More for iPhones.
