LG G5 Officially Confirmed For Feb. 21 Unveiling, On The Same Day As Samsung Galaxy S7

The LG G5 is officially making its debut on Feb. 21 at the Sant Jordi Club in Barcelona, Spain, before the 2016 Mobile World Congress, the same day when Samsung will launch the highly anticipated Galaxy S7 at its Unpacked event.

LG has announced the big news via Twitter, posting three images that centered on the number 5. If that's not enough proof of the upcoming smartphone, the company is also spreading the word using the hashtag #LGG5.

LG has, for some reason, removed its post on Twitter, but further evidence can also be found on Facebook, inviting everyone to "come meet new friends on the playground." Although, the better way to word the phrase would be — "come see one of the most striking Android smartphones that's about to rock the market."

The hardware specifications of the LG G5 are not revealed yet, and the smartphone maker did a pretty good job in keeping things on the down low. While they are not exactly fully available to the public, some speculations and rumors did manage to gain traction online.

The LG G5 could sport either a 5.5- or 5.6-inch display with a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution that supports 4K video. It is also believed to house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 along with 4 GB worth of RAM and a 4,000 mAh battery pack to power through the day.

As for the storage, there's a pretty good chance that it will have a microSD card slot, as the LG G4 came with it, not to mention that LG may have taken cues from Samsung's flub of removing the feature from the Galaxy S6. For built-in storage, it could come with 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants.

Meanwhile, it's expected to be fitted with a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera. On top of that, some leaks of the LG G5 case hint at a dual-camera setup. Out of the box, it's said that it will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Design-wise, it will have a metal casing, featuring a USB Type-C port, rear fingerprint sensor and a volume rocker positioned at the back.

To sum things up, the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 are treading on a comparable level of quality – that is, under the assumption that the purported components and specs will hold true.

The LG G5 is just a few weeks away from seeing the light of day, but for those who can't wait, you can check out the video renders of LG's formidable contender in the smartphone industry.
