Initially slated for 2016, action-RPG game Scalebound has been delayed to 2017, developer Platinum Games announced last month. Now, we are finally finding out another reason why.
In its delay announcement, Platinum Games said the team needed extra development time to help "bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned."
Microsoft marketing manager Aaron Greenberg further elaborated on the delay in a recent interview with IGN, revealing that pushing back the game's release date will allow Scalebound to be more successful compared with having it compete in 2016's dense lineup.
"As we're looking at our lineup for this year, and where [Platinum Games] are with Scalebound —what their aspirations are — and that game is super aspirational and huge ... we want to give them enough time and resources to do that," Greenberg said.
From a marketing point of view, why release the game when it could potentially not do so well against other anticipated titles coming out, such as Quantum Break, Inside, Crackdown 3, Below, Gears of War 4, Cuphead, Killer Instinct Season 3 and Sea of Thieves?
"Strategically we think give it time to breathe and let's make sure we give it enough space. First and foremost, always make sure the game is great," Greenberg said, adding that the 2017 launch is "setting it up for "better success."
It's a smart move for Microsoft to spread out its exclusives to clear up a crowded lineup of anticipated games.
Scalebound is scheduled to be released sometime in early 2017 for Xbox One.
