Before last year, Bethesda Softworks never really did much at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). However, last year, the company had its first press conference there and surprised fans by officially announcing the release of Fallout 4.
Not only did that announcement please fans, but the company followed it with an announcement that the game would release that year (and it did). The company also announced Doom at the 2015 E3 press conference.
So, it's interesting to note that Bethesda plans on attending E3 again this year and has made plans for its second press conference at that event, which will take place on June 12 at 7 p.m. PDT.
So, what does that mean? Will Bethesda unveil another major announcement about a new game? It's likely. It's also likely that fans would probably like to hear about a follow-up to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It's been a long time since players had a chance to visit the world of The Elder Scrolls.
Of course, Bethesda denies that the company even wants to think about The Elder Scrolls VI. Then again, no one expected a new Fallout game last year, either.
Perhaps the company will unveil an official announcement about the release of Dishonored 2. That would also please fans, but not as much as last year's Fallout 4 announcement. However, the press conference will probably offer more of Doom.
It's probably a safe bet that the company has a bigger announcement ready, though. Before today, it didn't even seem that interested in hosting another E3 press conference after last year's event.
"I don't know if we'll do one next year," said Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines last year to GameSpot. "I don't know if we'll do one again. [2015] felt like the right time to do this kind of thing."
Fallout 4 fans hope that the conference will also include some reveal about DLC for that title, although many hope that details about expansions arrive sooner than June.
Whatever Bethesda has planned for the press conference, though, Bethesda's fans will watch with anxious eyes when E3 arrives this summer.
