Olympus has taken the wraps off its new mirrorless digital camera dubbed the PEN-F. The camera boasts a 20MP Live MOS sensor in tandem with the company's 5-axis image stabilization, as well as an in-built 2.36 million dot OLED electronic viewfinder.
On Wednesday, the company unveiled its new offering which is set to go on sale in the U.S. in early March.
"Olympus is pleased to announce the PEN-F, a compact system camera created by fusing cutting-edge digital technology with craftsmanship handed down from 80 years of Olympus camera manufacturing. As the digital update of the original PEN-F, the world's first half-frame SLR, the new PEN-F is packed with incredible performance advancements for photographers seeking superior image quality and creative control," notes the company.
The mirrorless camera from Olympus also boasts a Creative Dial in the device's front, which enables access to several controls to aid one in creating a fabulous shooting experience.
The PEN-F not only has a timeless design, the mirrorless camera's latest version has a 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor, a bump from the 16MP chip Olympus used to deploy.
Moreover, the camera has the same OLED electronic viewfinder resolution of 2.36 million dots as the Fujifilm X-T1 and Fujifilm X-T10. The camera also has 3-inch swivelling touchscreen on the rear of the device.
Weighing 427gms, the PEN-F is pretty lightweight and houses Wi-Fi capabilities to aid both Remote Shooting and Wireless Sharing. It measures 24.8 mm (W) x 72.1 mm (H) x 37.3 mm and is quite compact.
The camera supports approximately 330 shots and 80 minutes of battery life when shooting movies. The device also has the 5-axis image stabilization which is available on the E-M10 Mark II. This feature makes one to shoot easily in low light conditions, allowing longer exposures and eliminating blurred images which are caused by shaky hands.
A notable feature on the PEN-F is its "high res shot" mode. Basically, in this mode - when using a tripod - the sensor is moved in between the shitter to create a 50MP image.
The camera is capable of taking RAW images at 10fps (or 20fps with the electronic shutter). The shutter is able to snap images as quickly as 1/16000th of a second.
The new Pen-F is priced at $1,199, and will be available in two hues: black and silver. It will hit the shelves in early March.
