Before it was official, many believed that Doomsday would turn out to be the villain that will bring Batman and Superman together. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. went ahead and blew their hand quite early in the second trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
By showing Doomsday in the second trailer, Warner Bros. only managed to get fans angry rather than excited. For a movie with the title "Batman v Superman" at the forefront, no one needed to see both heroes team up until they have seen the film come March.
Some fans also believe that Doomsday should have been kept for the eventual "Man of Steel" sequel. For those who are unaware, Doomsday killed Superman in the comics, and it is something fans have always wanted to see on the big screen. The event is similar to Bane breaking Batman's back, something we have seen in "The Dark Knight Rises."
Director of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," Zack Snyder, seems to think differently since he obviously supports the showing of Doomsday so early on. He explained to Empire Magazine (via CBM) why the decision was made, along with some interesting info about Lex Luthor.
"To go up against heroes like Batman and Superman, we wanted to introduce one of the DC Universe's most iconic and powerful villains," he explains. "He is essentially an unstoppable force. He poses a real threat to the world within the film."
Having a villain that poses a real threat is good news, because one of the problems we've found with Superman is the fact that his villains do not always constitute a massive threat to him. They fight and the Man of Steel comes out as the victor. However, a fight with Doomsday always leaves Superman reeling. If he doesn't die, he's at least battered and bruised, and that is something we want to see.
Zack Snyder also went on to add that Lex Luthor is very much interested in metahuman projects, and that might be one of the reasons why Wonder Woman is investigating him, among other things.
Recent rumors have claimed that Lex Luthor is looking into the possibilities if Wonder Woman is real. The rumor also stated that he's looking into The Flash and other heroes and villains of the DC Universe.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25, 2016 as the second film of the DC Extended Universe. The third will be "Suicide Squad," and it is set for an Aug. 5, 2016, release date.
