Apple has released tvOS 9.1.1, just a month after the company released tvOS 9.1 for the new Apple TV.
The update can be considered a minor one, bringing with it the standard performance improvements and bug fixes that are a part of any operating system upgrade.
The big news regarding tvOS 9.1.1, however, is the addition of the new Podcasts app. With the app, Apple TV owners that love to listen to podcasts through iTunes can play the latest episodes on their home theater systems connected to the Apple TV.
For added convenience, the Podcasts app on the new Apple TV will automatically be synchronizing all the subscriptions of users from iTunes through iCloud.
The Podcast app was initially included in the tvOS 9.2 beta, but Apple decided to release the app early along with tvOS 9.1.1. The app was available in previous versions of the Apple TV, and for some reason, it was not included in the first release of the new Apple TV.
There are no other significant changes detailed by Apple with tvOS 9.1.1, probably because the company is holding the big upgrades back for the much larger tvOS 9.2 release.
tvOS 9.1.1 is now available as an over-the-air update for the new Apple TV. Users can download it through the System menu of the Apple TV, under the Software Update option.
The beta version of tvOS 9.2 was released earlier in the month, providing a preview of what users can expect for the next version of the Apple TV operating system. tvOS 9.2 will add a folder system into the new Apple TV, along with an update to the app switcher user interface to utilize the same cascading card-style in iOS 9.
tvOS 9.2 will also be adding support for Bluetooth keyboards into the Apple TV. This will provide an alternative solution for an input device aside from the Remote app, which could turn an iPad or iPhone into a remote for the Apple TV, or the device's own Siri remote control.
