There's no shortage of fan theories where "Star Wars" is involved and even more came out when "The Force Awakens" was released. Colin Trevorrow, who is set to helm "Episode IX" despite a petition to bring back George Lucas to the director's chair, has seen them all and he promises that the answer at the end will be "deeply and profoundly satisfying."
"Episode IX" isn't due until 2019 but already Trevorrow is thinking about how he'll be wrapping things up with the sequel trilogy, making notes about the kind of story he wants to tell in the end.
It's all up to him then, right? How he'll lay to rest many speculations, especially those surrounding Rey?
According to the director, Rey is an important character in the universe, not just in "The Force Awakens," and she deserves that distinction.
"We'll make sure that the answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we're just telling you what happened," said Trevorrow.
Without going into spoilers, he did reveal something about Rey's parents when he confirmed in an interview that he was not creating a slew of new characters for "Episode IX." This means at least that Rey's father is someone already known.
Who could it be?
I'm personally stubbornly in the "Rey is a Solo" camp but there's also the glaringly obvious route that she's Luke Skywalker's flesh and blood.
Aside from enlightening us about Rey's parentage, Trevorrow is keen on finding new places to take Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher's characters. As iconic as they were, he also sees them as people that have gone through many challenges and suffered a great deal throughout the "Star Wars" films.
"I don't want to ignore any of it, and I respect all of it," he said, adding that "Episode IX" will be a movie that honors a story that's been told over the course of 40 years.
