Naughty Dog's upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief's End seems to be the final chapter in Nathan Drake's story, as the popular character doesn't seem to have anything else in store after that.
It's safe to say that Uncharted 4 is among the most anticipated games of 2016, keeping gamers worldwide on edge ahead of its official release.
The title will finally make its debut in late April, arriving as one of the many neat PS4 exclusives of 2016. Excitement is already building up and the upcoming game from Naughty Dog and publisher Sony is expected to be a great hit, but many gamers may be disappointed to see it as Nathan Drake's last stop.
The title itself (A Thief's End) could be a hint but that's not why we're saying that Uncharted 4 will be it for Nathan Drake. This revelation comes from the game's highly acclaimed Creative Director, Neil Druckmann, who dropped heavy hints at Drake's demise.
Speaking with UK publication The Sun, Druckmann left room for little doubt regarding Nathan Drake's future.
"We've been with this charter for so long," Druckman told the publication. "He's at the height of his popularity, so it's not a good business decision. But I feel like the best way to honour him [Nathan Drake] is to go out on top, to finish his story."
There you have it. Nathan Drake is on top and should go out on top, with his story approaching its end. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End definitely sounds like Drake's final chapter after these comments. Druckmann even dropped another heavy hint to top it all off.
"But with the end of this story, it will be really hard to do a sequel with Nathan Drake.
This suggests that Uncharted 4 will have a dramatic ending that will stir a firestorm of feelings for gamers, much like the ending of Game of Thrones' Season 5 that left fans in shock. Will Jon Snow make a comeback? How about Nathan Drake?
It remains unclear whether Uncharted 4 will kill off Nathan Drake, or simply send him to his next adventure away from the Uncharted universe. The latter variant would leave some room for a scheme to bring him back at some point, but it remains to be seen.
Should Uncharted 4 indeed be the very end of Nathan Drake, one thing's for sure: he will be missed.
