Even though IFC's Portlandia fans were treated to the origin story of Toni and Candace during the last season of the satirical sketch comedy about life in the Oregonian city that keeps on staying weird, it looks like we'll be hearing a little more about one of their pasts in a special Audible.com exclusive starring none other than Portlandia co-creator and SNL alumnus Fred Armisen.
The Audible tie-in, titled Portlandia Travelogue: The Brussels to Antwerp Express, is written by Armisen in the voice of his Portlandia persona Candace Devereaux, one of the co-owners of the fictional Women and Women First feminist bookstore, as well as one of the more popular characters on the skit comedy show.
"We are thrilled to partner with IFC to provide our customers with this exclusive Portlandia audio production," said Beth Anderson, Audible's EVP and publisher. "This hilarious audio companion demonstrates our commitment to innovative listening experiences, and we're delighted to be able to continue to draw talented writers and performers like Fred Armisen to the unique challenges and pleasures of audio performance."
Advertised as "[a] literary train journey on the Brussels to Antwerp Express through the erotic world of European train stations and mysterious faces," the bite-sized audiobook parody comes only a few weeks away from the Portlandia season six premiere, which will return to IFC on Jan. 21 with Armisen and co-creator Carrie Brownstein in tow.
"This creative partnership was a first for IFC, and Audible was the perfect partner for the unveiling of Candace Deveraux's erotic journeys," said IFC's marketing EVP Blake Callaway with a dash of tongue-in-cheek humor. "Candace's sensual voice will finally be heard through the reach of this project."
The tie-in is free to download on Audible.com until May 31, 2016.
