PlayStation 4
No Man's Sky
Developer: Hello Games
Release Date: June 2016
One of the most anticipated games in recent years, No Man's Sky is a first-person survival game that lets gamers explore different worlds through its open universe dynamic.
Players can interact with a number of alien inhabitants and move from planet to planet provided that their spaceships are well-equipped to make the journey.
Discoveries of new planets and other information will be stored in the game's universal database called The Atlas, which players can access and share with other gamers.
While gamers can do pretty much whatever they like in the world of No Man's Sky, engaging in too many hostile activities, such as killing other life forms or draining too many resources from planets, will attract the attention of Sentinels who will try to kill them.
The Last Guardian
Developer: genDESIGN, SCE Japan Studio
Release Date: 2016
The Last Guardian is a third-person action-adventure game made by the same game developers of the critically-acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus. It features the story of a boy who befriends a giant griffin-like creature named Trico while trying to make his way out of a ruined castle.
The game centers on the developing friendship between the boy and Trico. Certain in-game actions can be carried out by having the two characters work together, such as when traversing the castle's environment and solving different puzzles.
Tom Clancy's The Division
Developer: Ubisoft
Release Date: March 8, 2016
Ubisoft's newest Tom Clancy game The Division combines elements of third-person shooters with open world role-playing games.
The game follows the story of a covert team of tactical agents known as Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), or "The Division", who must find the ones responsible for releasing a pandemic in the United States that caused the government to collapse.
Similar to other shooter games, The Division allows players to wield various weapons and explosives to carry out their missions. As they progress through the game, characters are rewarded with experience points, which they can use for gear and weapon upgrades.
The game also features a time-based weather system which could aid or hinder players from completing their missions.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Developer: Naughty Dog
Release Date: March 18, 2016
The adventurer Nathan Drake is on another fortune-hunting mission in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. This time he teams up with his brother Sam to unlock the secrets of an old long-lost pirate colony called Libertatia.
Uncharted 4's demo, released at E3 2015, showed a larger game environment with more destruction elements and a new set of combat moves for Nathan Drake. Drake's wife, Elena Fisher, as well as his mentor, Victor Sullivan, will make their return to the game series.
Xbox One
Quantum Break
Developer: Remedy Entertainment
Release Date: April 5, 2016
While at first glance Quantum Break may look like another typical third-person action-adventure game, what sets the title apart is its time manipulation element.
Jack Joyce, tthe main character, can control time to gain an advantage on enemies. They can freeze time to avoid attacks, reverse the direction of bullets fired at them or even unleash a powerful offensive projectile called a Time Blast at their attackers.
The game's stuttering and collapsing time, however, provides players with a unique challenge where others characters may get frozen or objects may get stuck in a loop as they progress. In-game puzzles may also become harder to solve during such instances.
