Apple Watch PRIME Strap Has Its Own Batteries To Keep Your Smartwatch Charged At All Times

A new Apple Watch band called the PRIME Strap just hit Kickstarter, aiming to keep the smartwatch charged at all times thanks to the batteries incorporated into the band.

The Apple Watch stirred great interest since its debut and it seems to be doing well, but its battery life may not be its strongest suit. The smartwatch may have a slew of neat applications and other good things going for it, but the fact that it needs charging every night is a bit of a drawback. Moreover, the gadget charges only via the MagSafe dock included in the package, which further limits convenience.

The MagSafe dock is great and easy to use, but when you're on the go and your smartwatch is dying you may want a different solution to get more battery life. That's exactly what the PRIME Strap aims to offer, longer battery life on the go to keep the Apple Watch up and running.

"PRIME is a stylish Apple Watch strap that doubles battery power, brings uninterrupted usage and extends longevity," reads the project's description on Kickstarter.

The metal watch band incorporates two 150 mAh batteries which users can swap in and out whenever they need to.

"Charge from the strap, and swap batteries to keep the watch alive," further touts the description. "Whenever, wherever. Always fulfilled and always in composure."

An indicator will show each battery's status above and below the Apple Watch, so you always know where you stand. The slot where the strap goes into the Apple Watch has a hidden six-pin port that allows for charging, although Apple just mentioned it as a "diagnostic port." This way, PRIME turns the strap into a power bank for the gadget.

Each PRIME battery will allow for 9 hours of use, and the PRIME Strap will include two batteries. Charging the batteries is possible via the exclusive mobile power charger, a round power bank that will take 2.5 hours to do the trick. This power charger is called the PRIME bank and is also compatible with iOS lightning ports and mini USB 5-pin portals, which means that it will also work for charging your iPhone.

Brilletark, the company behind the PRIME Strap, is seeking to raise $30,000 via Kickstarter to it can bring its product to market. If it hits that goal, the PRIME Strap should start shipping by July 2016. Pledges start at $199, which will get backers a black PRIME Strap, two PRIME batteries, a PRIME bank, a charging cable, a desktop PRIME charger, a PRIME tool kit and the user manual. At the time of writing, only 14 spots out of 35 are still available for this tier.
