Rockstar Games announced on Thursday that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is now available for iOS devices, with the title "coming soon" for Android, Amazon and Windows Phone devices.
Making its move to iPhone and iPad devices, Liberty City Stories was first released in 2005 for Sony's PSP and will stay true to its original game but will feature some enhancements.
Rockstar Games said that the app will feature "shorter, streamlined missions designed with mobile game play in mind." The open-world adventure game has also been remastered for iOS to provide improved visuals, real-time lighting and shadows, support for Apple's 3D touch, touch controls and cross-platform cloud saves via the Rockstar Games Social Club.
Those who sign in to the Social Club within the app (using their same account used in GTA Online for PS4, Xbox One and PC) will unlock a bonus I Heart LC T-shirt that can then be found for free at any GTA Online clothing store after 24 hours.
Liberty City Stories takes place in the same fictional city that is based on New York, and follows the story of Toni Cipriani, a former wise guy for the Leone family that returns home after hiding for killing a made man. Upon his arrival, he finds Liberty City in trouble as warring families attempt to take control. There is political corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking and hit men — pretty much everything would would expect in a GTA title.
Toni must try to overcome the obstacles — that even includes his own mother — as he tries to help the Leone family rule the city.
This is not the first GTA title to be released in the App Store. Rockstar Games previously released the mobile versions of GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas and Chinatown Wars.
Rockstar also released a massive expansion for the console's GTA Online, which includes new executives and other criminals so that players can run their own criminal organization. The update also features the new games and challenges, the new Penthouse Apartments, yachts, new armored vehicles and two new weapons. Players can be their own boss or join an organization as a bodyguard.
Those who prefer to play on their mobile devices can download Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for $6.99 on the App Store.
