Marvel Really Wants You To Read 'The Vision' #1, So It's Giving It Away For Free

Although Marvel released the first issue of its new The Vision series last month, it seems that the company really wants to gain new readership for the title.

To do that, Marvel plans on giving away the full version of The Vision #1 free with the first issue of its latest series, Spider-Man/Deadpool "at no extra cost" to readers. ComiXology lists the price of Spider-Man/Deadpool #1 at $3.99, which is the standard price for most new books. So fans who pick up Spider-Man/Deadpool #1 are getting two books for the price of one.

The Vision #1 released last month and garnered critical acclaim, but Marvel hopes that this push and inclusion with another title will get the series some new readers that haven't yet discovered it.

"The Vision #1 is a title that perfectly encapsulates the All-New, All-Different Marvel initiative," says David Gabriel, Marvel SVP of sales and marketing, in an email press release. "It's a riveting reinterpretation of a character that has existed for decades and Tom [King], Gabriel [Hernandez Walta] and Jordie [Bellaire] truly hit a home run. We're hoping that by including it in a huge release like Spider-Man/Deadpool we can get this fantastic first issue in front of a larger audience."

In The Vision #1, the title character creates his own family: a wife and two teenage twins. His family is just like him and shares his powers, but their one goal is to live normal lives, although they are far from normal.

"Behold The Visions!" reads the description on comiXology. "They're the family next door, and they have the power to kill us all. What could possibly go wrong?"

Spider-Man/Deadpool #1 will contain 40 pages, with the full story from The Vision #1 included at the end of the issue. Marvel expects that the issue will arrive with high demand, and encourages retailers to make sure to "check their orders."

Marvel offered a first look at artwork and interior pages from Spider-Man/Deadpool #1 earlier this month. The title, written by Joe Kelley with artwork by Ed McGuinness, follows the two popular characters — hero and anti-hero — as they team up for what might prove an interesting story, especially considering that Deadpool loves Spider-Man, but the feeling is certainly not mutual. Obviously, something big happens in the story that brings them together, although Marvel remains quiet on what that big something actually is.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #1 hits comic book stores on Jan. 6.
