What happens when the "merc with the mouth" meets the "webbed wonder" in an all-new ongoing comic book series by Marvel?
It's likely fans of both superheroes will find out soon when Marvel releases the first issue of Spider-Man/Deadpool.
Recently, Marvel teased the new title, offering up a first look at the new title's cover art, as well as sneak peeks at some of the comic's interior pages.
However, Marvel didn't release a lot of details about the plot, and only teased what fans can expect when Spider-Man/Deadpool hits stores.
"Blockbuster creators and legendary Deadpool creative team of Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness reunite once more to chronicle the ongoing adventures of Peter Parker and Wade Wilson!" wrote Marvel in an emailed press release. "Deadpool LOVES Spider-Man. Spider-Man HATES Deadpool. What could go wrong? More importantly—what on Earth could bring these two together for a titanic team-up in the mighty Marvel manner?"
Marvel announced Spider-Man/Deadpool at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. At the time, Kelly hinted at what the series is about.
"I can say that they come for the Deadpool but stay for the Spidey—or I can tell you the truth: I can't tell you that," said Kelly to Marvel. "I will say that there is an assassination involved, a case of misplaced trust and their names are on the book so they sort of have to show up."
That's still not a lot to go on, but it's something. Marvel also promised that the series would contain a lot of humor because it does feature Deadpool, after all.
"Which is why each issue is printed in three-point type and sold with a magnifying glass for the full comedy experience," joked Kelly. "Seriously, I'm having a blast writing the banter. It's your favorite buddy-cop movie on steroids if it was written by a swill-minded teenager."
As usual, variant covers will also get released for this new title, including one by Mike Del Mundo, an action figure variant cover, a hip hop variant cover and a Deadpool variant by Will Sliney.
Spider-Man/Deadpool #1 hits comic book store shelves on Jan. 6.
