AT&T customers no longer have to worry about missing calls or texts when they accidentally leave their phone at home—that is, if they have a Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.
AT&T announced on Tuesday the launch of its new NumberSync feature for the Gear S2 that allows users to send and receive texts and make and receive calls from their smartphone using their existing mobile number.
Of course, cell service support on a smartwatch isn't a new feature; however, the wearables require users to set up a separate account from their cell line, meaning they would have to use a second number.
Instead, AT&T's new feature allows for two devices to be connected to one number, meaning when a call or text comes up on the phone, the wearable will also receive the same message or call. NumberSync operates on AT&T's wireless network, and does not require a Bluetooth connection.
While Samsung Gear G2 is the first device to get support from NumberSync, AT&T reveals it plans to have more devices supported in the future.
The company also announced that it is now selling the Gear S2 for $99 with a two-year contract, with voice and data services adding an additional $10 to existing Mobile Share Value plans.
