Looks like Sony's Playstation 4 (PS4) console will have a hefty day-one download patch for various features and functionality when it launches November 15.
Along with Blu-Ray Disk and DVD playback abilities, the 300MB 1.50 update download is required for these functions :-
Face recognition and voice commands
Party (voice chat)
Multi log-in
Play as you download
Broadcast and spectate gameplay
Record, take screenshots, upload gameplay
Second Screen
Remote Play
Background music player
Online Multiplayer
Sony also confirmed that the PS4 will support a maximum of four log-ins from users at once, meaning players can save data and earn trophies individually. In comparison, Microsoft's upcoming Xbox One allows six simultaneously sign-ins. More features are to be added post-launch, according to Sony.
One highly touted feature of Sony's next-gen console - suspend/resume mode - won't be available even with the download. The feature will allow Playstation 4 users to pause a game normally and walk away, and the console will enter a low power mode until gameplay resumes.
More recently, it was revealed that the console's DualShock 4 controller will work for Mac gaming as well as PC. Earlier this month, Playstation President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida mentioned on Twitter that the controller would work on PCs with "basic functionality". Vine video user Chris Gallizi would later show the DualShock 4 working on a current iMac. Gallizi demonstrated the ability by playing several seconds of Hotline Miami.
Sony's controller will work with any system using Bluetooth 2.1 or higher, provided it also includes Android. The next-gen controller from Sony features a few, new functions including a touchpad and light bar among other updates. Charging for the controller will come through a standard microUSB as opposed to its predecessor's miniUSB. DualShock 4 controllers will retail for $59.99.
When released, the Playstation 4 will retail for $399.99 in the U.S. That's a lot cheaper than the $1,845 Playstation fans will pay in Brazil for Sony's next-gen console.
